The damp skies showed some mercy, and the first try at a Veterans Day Parade down Park Boulevard last Friday went off pretty smoothly. A reported estimated the crowd along the route as certainly into the hundreds, if not a thousand spectators.
A few drizzles came as the participants were lining up at Westmore Oaks Elementary School on Clarendon Street.
“I was surprised how well everyone put together their parade entry,” said Reynolds. “I hope to do it again next year.”
The parade featured a tribute to the veterans – including seven of them serving as grand marshals and one, Ron Jones of Channel 13, serving as MC. There was also a Vietnam War-era helicopter, a mounted crew from the West Sacramento Trail Riders Association, cheerleading troupes who performed dangerous-looking aerial stunts over the asphalt, and the Cal Aggie Marching Band.
