FROM THE NEWS-LEDGER — APRIL 18, 2012 –
Eight local churches and charities were chosen from among 41 applicants by lottery for a permit to operate a fireworks booth in West Sacramento during this year’s Fourth of July season.
For the first time, the city legalized use of “safe and sane” fireworks last year for a limited time during the Independence Day holiday, and authorized eight charities to run booths. The booths earned an average of $12,000 last year, reports the city clerk.
Applicants were selected from categories – “youth,” “service,” “arts, culture & education” or “at large.”
