The West Sacramento Sea Scouts will host open house of the Cutter Morris in Old Sacramento this weekend, on Saturday from 11-5 and Sunday from 9-12.
The Morris is the world’s largest Sea Scout training vessel. She operated as a Coast Guard Cutter from 1927-1970, and measuring in at 125′, she is the largest Sea Scout training vessel in the world. She is operated by the Sacramento Delta Youth Maritime Association (www.youthmaritime.com), based out of West Sacramento, CA. The vessel has been in Sea Scouting since 1971, and recently has undergone a $2 million refit. Former Sea Scouts from this program actually served on her during the Cuban Missile crisis.
She will be moored this weekend at the Old Sacramento Public Dock for public tours. Crew members of the Neptune will be on hand to answer questions and give tours.
