Westfield Village Elementary School in West Sacramento celebrated “Read Across America” week with its own family literacy celebration on Feb. 27. Over 200 children and parents showed up, receiving information in English and Spanish on things families can do at home to promote reading and literacy.
Several students read programs, and K-5 grade classes had booths on display.
“Through third grade, children learn to read,” said Katie Villegas in a press release. “Starting in fourth grade, students read to learn. We cannot overstate the importance of children learning to read at grade level by the end of third grade.”
