The West Sacramento Police Department announces it will hold a “DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint” tonight between 7 p.m. and 3 a.m. at an undisclosed location in West Sacramento.

“Officers will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint for signs of alcohol and/or other drug impairment,” said Lieutenant Tod Sockman of the W.S.P.D. in a press release. “Officers will also check drivers for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily. When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving.”

The department believes that well-publicized, frequent DUI checkpoints reduce drinking-related car crashes.
