A man apparently walking on the freeway in West Sacramento early this morning was struck and killed. The accident caused extended lane closures and traffic delays.

According to the California Highway Patrol incident log, a witness reported at 6:02 a.m. that there was a pedestrian “in dark clothes” walking on the right hand side of westbound I-80 near the Yolo Causeway.

Five minutes later, another witness reported that the “running” pedestrian “possibly ran into traffic and got hit.” Others reported there was now a body in the middle lane of the freeway or on the “inside of the fast lane.”

CHP records indicate a vehicle was ordered towed away as evidence in the investigation. The Highway Patrol predicted closed lanes would reopen around 10 a.m. today.

Further information was not immediately available.
