Future Picassos: Every Child is an Artist
This class is designed to develop and bring out your child’s inner artist. They will explore the 7 main elements of art: line, shape, form, space, texture, value and color through a variety of mediums such as watercolors, oil pastels, colored pencils and acrylic paint on canvas. The exposure to a variety of art forms will give your child confidence in creating art and a greater familiarity of art application and composition. Students will leave class each day with a completed art piece! This class is sure to be fun and will awaken their inner Picasso!
Age7 – 12 years, class held Mondays 5:30pm – 7:00pm at the Community Center, 1075 West Capitol Ave. Fee$65 (All materials are included)
Introduction to Dance I
The Introduction to Dance I course is a fusion course of ballet, jazz and hip-hop. Children will learn and build on the five feet and arm positions of ballet, basic technique of jazz dance and the foundation of hip-hop dancing. This course is designed for children who want exposure to a variety of basic dance forms through an array of music and obtain a basis of movement found in all dance forms. Our goal is to foster creativity, freedom and expression. Children should wear comfortable dance clothes, such as leggings, tights, leotard, ballet slippers, dance shoes or bare feet and bring a little book or journal for sticker and stamp collection after each class.
Age 7 – 14 years, Thursdays 12:00 – 12:45, at the Community Center, 1075 West Capitol Ave. Fee: $20.
Beginning Acoustic Guitar 1
Ever wanted to learn to play acoustic guitar? Now is your chance. This class, taught by local singer-song writer Sherman Baker, will teach the basics of folk, country, blues, and rock guitar. Anyone can learn. No experience necessary. Please bring a working acoustic guitar.
Age 10+, Tuesdays 5:30-6:30 p.m., at the Community Center, 1075 West Capitol Ave. $40 for a 4 week session.
Intro to Martial Arts
Learn the basic self-defense skills while building confidence and learning discipline. We provide a fun learning environment where students develop skills to face challenges in life. No equipment necessary.
Age 6 – 17 years, Tuesdays 6-7 p.m., monthly four-week classes at the Community Center, 1075 West Capitol Ave. $35
Combining the ancient art styles of Karate and Aiki Jujitsu, students will learn self-control while building confidence in their abilities. With a fun and educational environment this class can be fun for entire family. Ongoing classes from white belt to black belt. No equipment necessary.
