River Cats’ championship hunt is over

     The Sacramento River Cats made it all the way to the championship series. But then they were swept in three games by the Omaha Storm Chasers, who earned a Pacific Coast League Championship.
Omaha cemented the championship with an 11-6 victory on Sept. 17 at Raley Field.
The River Cats were seeking their fifth championship in the Triple-A baseball league, but Omaha achieved its first.
Omaha right-handed pitcher Luis Mendoza earned “most valuable playoff” honors, with a 2-0 record and 1.29 ERA in the playoffs.
