Villegas is new West Sac ‘mayor pro tem’

The West Sacramento City Council selected Oscar Villegas as Mayor Pro Tem for the next year, effective Dec. 7, 2011. He succeeds William Kristoff, who will continue his term on the City Council. The Mayor Pro Tem serves in the absence of the Mayor when the Mayor is not available for a City Council meeting or City event.

This is the fifth time that Mr. Villegas has served as Mayor Pro Tem. He previously was Mayor Pro Tem in 2002, 2003, 2006, and 2009. Mr. Villegas has been a City Council member continuously since November 2000, having been reelected by voters in 2004 and 2008.

West Sacramento residents separately elect the mayor and the city council positions. The whole council then annually chooses a Mayor Pro Tem from among the four council members to serve a single year term in that position.

In addition to Mayor Pro Tem Villegas and Councilmember Kristoff, the current members of the West Sacramento City Council are Mayor Christopher Cabaldon, Mark Johannessen, and Chris Ledesma.

The next regular meeting of the West Sacramento City Council is Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, 7 p.m. at City Hall, 1110 West Capitol Ave.
