Upstart Raiders upset El Camino
NEWS-LEDGER ONLINE — FEB 24, 2012 —
After winning their first game of the playoffs Tuesday against Rocklin, River City traveled to El Camino last night.
El Camino boasted a 10-0 league record during regular season, 24-5 overall.
In Thursday’s match, El Camino scored a few quick baskets, as did River City. El Camino would eventually take the lead and by the end of the first quarter, El Camino was ahead 16-13. At halftime, they were still up, 27-21 .
River City came out halftime pressing and getting a few steals, surging a comeback. By the end of the third quarter, the game was tied 33-33.
The game would see more lead changes. With just 47.3 seconds left in the game, it was all tied again 48-48. River City kept El Camino from scoring on their next possession and after a time out, River City ran some time off the clock holding the ball. With just two seconds left in the game, the Raiders’ Katie King was fouled while taking a three-point shot.
Katie went to the line and missed the first shot. Then she made the next two, putting River City ahead 50-48.
[adrotate group=”9″] With less than a second, El Camino threw the ball inbounds and took a quick shot — and missed.
River City was still ahead at the buzzer, winning in dramatic fashion. Final score: 50-48.
Katie King finished the game with 26 points.
River City now travels to McNair in Stockton on Tuesday, February 28. McNair finished their regular season at 8-2 in their division and 26-3 overall. The game will be played at University of the Pacific, at a time to be announced later.

River City pretty much dominated the game and won 57-38. The high scorers for RCHS against Rocklin were Jordan Ligons with 16, Marrissa Tyler with 15 and Katie King with 14.
