NEWS-LEDGER ONLINE — FEB 27, 2012 –
This press release has just been released from Raley Field:
Raley Field — home to the Pacific Coast League’s Triple-A Sacramento River Cats — will play host to 48 high school baseball games and one college game this spring, as part of a partnership between the River Cats, Sports Authority and Northern California high schools.
With more than 40 high schools participating in this unique partnership, this year’s high school baseball schedule at Raley Field is the busiest in the program’s history. The program serves as a fundraising tool for the schools, while at the same time offering local student-athletes a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play in the region’s largest and most recognizable ballpark. High schools are given the opportunity to sell River Cats tickets to their friends and family, with proceeds of the sales going directly to the schools’ baseball programs.
For this first time in 2012, Raley Field will play host to a Division II college baseball game as well, with Chico State and Sonoma State set to square off on Sunday, April 22, at 1 p.m.
Participating high schools cover a geographic area stretching from El Dorado to Mount Shasta to Santa Rosa, and all points in between. Local Sacramento powerhouses will participate as well, highlighted by 2011 Sac-Joaquin Section Division I runner-up Jesuit, which will face Davis at Raley Field on Friday, March 16.
The 2012 Raley Field High School Baseball Series presented by Sports Authority will culminate with the inaugural High School Showcase Games on Sunday, June 3, beginning at 1 p.m. This doubleheader will feature players from all 43 participating high schools, and will give the area’s top players a chance to shine in front of college coaches and professional scouts alike.
