NEWS-LEDGER ONLINE — MARCH 27, 2012 –
Just after going to press with tomorrow’s News-Ledger, we learned that there’s an update to one of this week’s news stories.
Last Wednesday, West Sacramento police asked for help from the public catching a man who was seen in a stolen F-150 pickup truck, and then led them on a brief chase including a stint going the wrong way on a freeway, a car accident and a foot chase (you can see that story here.)
Last night, they think they caught him. The story involves another stolen white Ford F150 pickup, another brief car chase and another foot chase.
Sergeant Nathan Steele of the West Sacramento Police Department told the News-Ledger today that things started last night on West Capitol Avenue.
“Last night at approximately 10:30 p.m., one of our officers located a stolen F-150 white pickup. He attempted a vehicle stop. There was a brief chase.”
When the chase reached Enterprise and Industrial boulevards, the officer used a “pursuit intervention technique” or “PIT” when speeds were deemed slow enough.
“At low speeds, a patrol vehicle attempts to tap the rear end of the (suspect) vehicle and cause it to spin out,” explained Steele. “The vehicle spun out. The driver fled on foot, but was captured after a brief foot chase.”
In custody is 34 year old Lino Garcia Jr. of the Napa/Solano area, said Steele. He is charged with possessing a stolen vehicle and with felony evasion. He also has a felony warrant out of Napa.
