   NEWS-LEDGER — MARCH 21, 2012 —

Helped by a made free-throw with 3.4 seconds left on the clock, the West Sacramento Firefighters beat the West Sacramento Police Department on the basketball court 53-52 in overtime on March 9. The contest was “back and forth,” with police hitting several shots from beyond the arc.

The “Safety Slam Jam” match between the two departments took place in River City High School’s gym, as a fundraiser for the school’s athletic programs. The event is planned to return next year.
