FROM THE NEWS-LEDGER — JUNE 6, 2012 –
Thieves have been ripping copper wiring and pipes from cell phone towers, businesses, and even power lines in the region, turning the copper in for its cash value.
But on Thursday, West Sacramento police say they believe they caught one of the thieves.
Shortly after receiving a report of copper pipe theft from a local business, officers stopped 61-year old Robert Joyce of West Sacrament for a traffic enforcement issue.
“They noted that he was in possession of copper pipe and power tools,” said a press statement from Sergeant Nathan Steele of the W.S.P.D. “A subsequent investigation determined that the suspect was in possession of stolen property from two recent commercial burglaries where copper piping and other items were stolen. The loss and damage to the businesses was estimated at over $20,000.”
Joyce was arrested.
