Partners rehab Little League park

   In addition to work performed by O.C. Jones leading up to the event, over 100 volunteers came down to lend a helping hand for the day.  In addition to the multiple dugout, backstop and scorebooth reconstruction, the crews completed painting, electrical and landscaping renovations.  Repairs were also made at the playground, basketball half-court, snack bar, fences, and horseshoe pits, as well as planting and sod placement at the park, new tanbark at the playground, resurfacing walkways, and tree trimming.

  West Sacramento Centennial Rotary Club pitched in by building two shade structures over the T-Ball field dugouts.

“Most people don’t know this, but major construction has already occurred prior to Volunteer Day,” said Darren Hiatt, Construction Lead, in a press release from TLC forKids. “Then, dozens of community volunteers come out to lend a helping hand on Volunteer Day and that’s like the icing on the cake.  So, from start to finish these projects involve a ton of work and commitment from our team of skilled professionals, corporate sponsors, and helpful volunteers.  The result is a beautifully renovated park or field to be enjoyed by local neighborhoods.”

  Angie Logsdon, staffer at the West Sacramento Police Department, conveyed her feelings about the positive impact of the project.  “Thank you for all the work that was done,” told TLC for Kids.  “It looks good and we cannot express how wonderful it was to have some much needed work on the fields that are used by the children of our community.  We have definitely been putting the fields to use.”

  Other sponsors for the rehab were Kelly-Moore Paints, Kodiak Roofing, Pisor Fence, Forest Lumber, Teichart Aggregates, Valley Crest Landscape, Home Depot, Striping Graphics, and Sports Field Specialties, Inc.

  “Sponsoring the TLC for Kids Sports program has been a way for all of us at O.C. Jones to give back to our communities and our youth,” said Kelly Kolander, President and CEO of O.C. Jones & Sons, Inc. “We especially want to thank our many great sponsors and volunteers that helped make this project a reality.”

   This project is one of several that have been completed in the last few years throughout Northern California.  O.C. Jones, KNBR 680 AM, and TLC for Kids Sports created a contest where local youth ball parks could win the opportunity to be selected for a full makeover.  To date, many baseball and softball facilities have been renovated.  The Tahoe Tallac, Eastridge and Antioch Little Leagues have all recently benefited from the efforts the TLC for Kids Program.

  In addition, TLC for Kids Sports recently finished spearheading the construction of the Las Lomas Memorial Outdoor Classroom in Walnut Creek.  It was the culmination of a year-long fundraising campaign and school activities in honor of Gavin Powell and Matt Miller, two students who died while rafting in a storm-swollen local creek.  150 student volunteers were mobilized to assist in landscaping the new Outdoor Classroom, which was designed based on sketches that Miller did for a school assignment.

  O.C. Jones, KNBR, and TLC will review park proposals and select new winners in the months ahead, reports TLC for Kids.
