Donors have come up with $4,200 in reward money for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever bound and killed a small dog in West Sacramento last month.
A probation officer working with a yard maintenance crew found the dog on the afternoon of July 26 at 1720 Merkley Avenue, near Westacre Road.
“The dog’s legs were bound together and its mouth was tied shut,” according to the Animal Services Division of the Yolo County Sheriff’s Department. “During the veterinarian’s preliminary examination and X-ray, it was determined the dog’s neck had been broken.”
The dog was reportedly a stray male known as “B.J.” to locals. It was 3-5 years old, small, with tan and white coloring.
Contributions have come in for the reward fund from Red Rover, an animal advocacy group ($3,500), Heller Racing ($500) and others, reaching a $4,200 total.
Meanwhile, a cat found dead and mangled in a West Sacramento gutter on Aug. 17 is apparently not the result of another incident of animal cruelty. A citizen found the animal shortly after midnight near the intersection of Westacre Road and Laurel Lane. (That incident was reported in the News-Ledger’s “Police Log” last week).
“It was confirmed by our vet that the injuries were consistent to being hit by a car,” said Vicky Fletcher of Yolo County’s Animal Services Division.
Anyone with information on the dog’s death is asked to help solve this “extreme case of animal cruelty,” said the Animal Services department. If you have information, please call the department at (530) 668-5287 or call West Sacramento Police at (916) 617-4900.
