FROM THE NEWS-LEDGER — DEC 5, 2012 –
The Valero gas station and convenience store on the west end of West Capitol Avenue was robbed at gunpoint on Friday.
Twice.
At 6:52 a.m., police received a reported that “two males with guns” had just robbed the establishment at 4790 West Capitol.
Then, at 8:38 p.m., they received a report that another “211” had just occurred. Two subjects with at least one gun had just hit Valero again, according to dispatchers’ notes reviewed by the News-Ledger.
The gas station’s location, near the onramp to I-80 westbound, might make it an attractive target for robbers looking for a quick escape route.
An investigator “is doing some work on that, seeing if there is any link, or it’s just a coincidence,” he said. Early indications are that the suspects in each case were different.
The News-Ledger was not immediately able to reach Valero by phone for comment, and to find out if the same clerk had been involved in both robberies – although that seemed unlikely, given the 10-hour spacing between the crimes.
