Farmers market: changes in store

Yes, the West Sacramento Farmers Market is coming back.
First night of the season will be Thursday, June 6, reports Denice Seals, CEO of the West Sacramento Chamber of Commerce. And that evening will bring some new stuff that Seals is pretty excited about. Most obvious is the location:
“The steering committee for the farmers market is really excited that the market is going to be moving onto West Capitol Avenue,” Seals told the News-Ledger. “West Capitol Avenue will be shut down around city hall.”
For the first two seasons, the local farmers market was held on a vacant lot behind Walgreens, on the other side of West Capitol. But for 2013, the market will move into the street in front of city hall at 1110 West Capitol Avenue. Drivers will be able to get into and out of the parking lot at city hall, but the boulevard will be shut down between those two driveways at city hall.
Also new to this year’s market will be dinner for a hundred:
“It will be white linen table clothes outside,” said Seals. “It will be a sit-down dinner for 100 people, prepared (the first night of the market) by city council member Chris Ledesma and Jess Milbourn, a chef at The Eatery. Everyone will be ‘miked up.’ The featured chef each time will be talking and educating folks about the produce they chose and everything.”

“We’ll be having food trucks this year at the market,” she said.
Seals said the market will turn the focus of the farmers market more back to its roots.
“We are featuring some local farmers and creating the opportunity and connections between farmers and consumers,” she said.
