Japanese food plant opens in West Sac
NEWS-LEDGER ONLINE — AUG 22, 2013 —
The Japanese food product company Nippon Shokken is celebrating the opening of its first American plant on Monday with a tour of the facility.
The company produces blended Japanese seasonings and food products. It began construction on the 70,000-square foot plant in February, 2012, at 2970 Ramco Street in West Sacramento. The plant in the Southport Business Park is capable of employing up to 400 people at full capacity, reports Art Schroeder of the City of West Sacramento.
Last year, company officials said they expect to begin with a hundred employees and a production capacity of 2,400 tons per year.
Chairman Kazuhiko Ozawa said at the time that the Japanese company chose West Sacramento in part because of the “bounty of quality water, which is essential for production of seasonings, and to have the utmost land of well-built infrastructure.”
Check-in for the tour is at 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 26.
