What’s going in near Lowe’s?

A couple of readers have noticed the earth-moving work now underway next to Taco Bell and the Lowe’s center in Southport. The new earth moving work is on the north side of the complex, near the bridge.

A new restaurant or two, perhaps?

Not so, a city planning department rep told the News-Ledger yesterday.

“This is going to be for a self-storage facility,” she said. “West Sacramento Self Storage.”

Soooo, we have about a hundred acres of open space surrounding the industrial parks off of Southport parkway, and the planning dept, instead, decides to approve a secure storage facility between a highly traveled shopping center and an adjacent highly-used park?

So I have to ask, is this kind of utter fail in city planning due to incompetence or someone getting paid?

Well, I guess at least the homeless who camp along the river will have something to break into and steal when they are done defecating right?
