Need a little help? ‘Community Giveaway Day’ returns this Saturday

FROM THE NEWS-LEDGER — NOV 20, 2013 —

The Yolo County Children’s Alliance will host its annual “West Sacramento Community Giveaway Day” on Saturday, November 23, between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. at Westfield Village Elementary School, 508 Poplar Avenue.

The Children’s Alliance and community partners will provide about 400 low-income families with free food (a Thanksgiving dinner), clothing, blankets, jackets, baby items, and toys for the kids.

To help avoid long lines, the Children’s Alliance has preregistered more than 300 families for the community give-away.  As supplies last, unregistered families will be served beginning at 10 a.m.  Once the food and other items are gone, families will be referred to other agencies that can provide help.

“Approximately 2400 Yolo County children live at or below the poverty level, said Katie Villegas, executive director of the alliance, in a press release. “Many children begin each school year without essential items such as healthy food, warm clothing or suitable shoes. The West Sacramento Community Give-Away Day is one of the many ways we help support and strengthen Yolo’s working families.”

To donate online go to: http://www.yolokids.org/donate-now or send a check to the Yolo County Children’s Alliance 600 A Street, Suite Y, Davis, CA 95616.    The event is co-hosted by the Yolo Food Bank, Kaiser Permanente, First 5 Yolo, West Sacramento Foundation, St. Joseph’s Mobile Mall and Grocery Outlet.
