West Sac woman dies; possible suicide

NEWS-LEDGER — NOV 19, 2014 —

A West Sacramento woman is dead after an incident that started on Yolo Street.

The following information comes direct and unconfirmed from police reports; the News-Ledger was not immediately able to get additional details:

Sometime before 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, 40-year old Christina Lynn Munoz was in an argument at her home with 44-year old Leonardo Galvin.

“She produced a handgun and fired one round at him, missing,” reported an officer.

Munoz then left the scene and was later found dead in Sacramento with a gunshot wound to the head. Sacramento police are investigating.

RCHS athletes sign ‘letters of intent’

NEWS-LEDGER — NOV 19, 2014 —

Two student-athletes from River City high School signed their ‘letters of intent’ to commit to a particular college and its sports program in a ceremony on campus on Friday.
Ashlend Rodiguez will attend the University of West Alabama to play softball next fall.  Aliyah Brantley will go to Menlo College to play basketball.
Both students have a GPA of 3.0 or higher at River City, and each has played for the school varsity-level team since her freshman year.

Holy Cross School hosts chili cook-off

FROM THE NEWS-LEDGER — NOV 19, 2014 —

Holy Cross Academy, a Catholic private school in West Sacramento, will bring back its annual chili cook-off fundraiser at 6 p.m. on Nov. 22. Among the competitors will be Broderick roadhouse, Capitol Dime, De Vere’s Irish Pub and Pour House. There will be a beer garden.

Open to those 21 and up; $10 in advance or $15 at the door (or $20/$30 for admission plus a beer garden pour card. Purchase tickets at the school, 801 Todhunter Ave., or at http://holycross-westsac.org/support/chilicookoff.

Comedian Jack Gallagher will emcee the event. There will be a silent auction and Christmas bazaar. For information on entering the chili competition, email holycrosschili@gmail.com.

Thanksgiving meals, household goods handed out while supplies last

FROM THE NEWS-LEDGER — NOV 19, 2014 —

The West Sacramento Community Giveaway Day returns this Saturday, Nov. 22, from 8-11 a.m. at Westfield Village Elementary School, 508 Poplar Avenue.

About 400 families will receive free food (a Thanksgiving dinner), clothing, blankets, toys and other items. Supplies may exceed demand. The event is sponsored by the Yolo County Children’s Alliance (www.yolokids.org) and partners.

Items will be handed out while supplies last.
