Free household items on Saturday


The West Sacramento Community Giveaway Day returns on Sat., Nov. 17, from 8 a.m. until supplies last, at Westfield Village Elementary School, 508 Poplar Avenue.

[adrotate group=”7″]   If your household needs some help with free donated food, clothing, baby items, shoes, toys and other household goods, you’re invited. Must be a West Sacramento resident. Proof of address and children required (driver’s license, Medi-Cal card, or utility bill, for example). Sponsored by the school, St. Joseph’s Mobile Mall, West Sacramento Grocery Outlet and Yolo County Children’s Alliance.

Volunteers and donations (cash, food, gift certificates and donated items) are welcome. Call (530) 757-5558 to donate goods.

Sign up today for free holiday meal


The Food Bank of Yolo County plans to distribute 1,500 free Thanksgiving Meals this year. Distribution in West Sacramento will be on Nov. 17.

Sign up by today — Friday, Nov. 9 — by calling (530) 668-0648.

[adrotate group=”7″]   Those who sign up too late for the Thanksgiving meals will automatically be registered to receive holiday food at Christmas in December. Meals include a turkey, fresh produce and non-perishable goods. The program started with a donation from the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation Community Fund in 2011.

Free shade trees to plant


The City of West Sacramento may give you two large, 15-gallon trees and stakes for planting at your home. 10 species to choose from. To qualify, you must attend one of the upcoming tree planting workshops scheduled for Nov. 7, Jan. 9 or March 6. Call 617-4620.

Halloween event for kids tonight


Over 20 West Sacramento businesses are joining up to host s “safe, secure and fun” Halloween event for kids from 6-9 p.m. on Oct. 30 at Exclusive Realty & Mortgage, 1102 Jefferson Blvd. Parking available at Whitey’s Jolly Kone.

Games, prizes, face painting, a “not too scary” spooky house and a kids’ costume contest. Plus treats for the kids. The Hulk, Iron Man, Darth Vader and other characters will be on hand.

Food giveaway today in West Sac


The Food Bank of Yolo County will distribute free food to eligible West Sacramento and Clarksburg residents on Tuesday, Oct. 16.

[adrotate group=”9″] Distribution times are: 9-10 a.m. at the county building, 500 Jefferson Blvd.; 10:30-11:15 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1500 Park Blvd.; 11-noon at the Yolo Housing Authority, 685 Lighthouse Dr.; and noon to 1 p.m. at the Clarksburg Firehouse.

West Sac orchestra: free concert


The West Sacramento Community Orchestra invites you to a free concert on Sun., Oct. 14, at 3 p.m. at the city hall galleria, 1110 West Capitol. A second concert is planned for 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 16 at Centennial United Methodist Church, 5401 Freeport Blvd. in Sacramento.
