Local history: the Native Americans

A new West Sacramento exhibit opening Thursday, March 7, honors the area’s first residents, the Native Americans who lived in what later became West Sacramento. Visit the “Our Journey, the First Families” exhibit from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the community center, 1075 West Capitol Avenue. Sponsored by the West Sacramento Historical Society & California Indian Heritage Center.

FROM THE WEST SACRAMENTO NEWS-LEDGER —

The West Sacramento Historical Society is offering a field trip to the historic town of Winters in western Yolo County on Sept. 22. To prepare, there will be two orientation sessions: 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 18 at River Bend Manor, 664 Cummins Way, and 6 p.m. on Sept. 20 at the same location. For information, contact Lana, 372-5117.

Plants, garden tools sold for charity

Pick up a new plant, a slightly used gardening tool, pot or irrigation component, or something else for your garden this spring.

  A plant and garden sale is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. this weekend, April 14-15, at 1700 Deerwood Street. Proceeds benefit the West Sacramento Historical Society. For information, call 372-7438.
