West Sac man dies in late-night accident

NEWS-LEDGER — NOV 5, 2014 —

A West Sacramento man died in a multi-car crash following a Halloween party.

According to the CHP and local media reports, 24-year old Shane Holland was a passenger in a car involved in a crash about 1:25 a.m. on Saturday morning, at westbound I-80 near Roseville.

He was a passenger in a car that was part of a ride-share service called “Lyft.”

Driver Shanti Adhikari was driving Holland and another passenger in rainy conditions. Adhikari swerved his Camry to avoid a stalled Kia – which had been hit my another car earlier – but lost control  of the Camry, spun out and hit a tree. Holland died immediately; the other two in the car are reported to be recovering from their injuries.

The Kia had apparently been rear-ended by an unknown vehicle, causing it to spin out and stall in the middle lanes. The other car in that incident was not immediately located.

After the Camry crashed, the Kia’s driver tried to push his car off the road, but it was hit again by a pickup truck or SUV, and the driver was knocked to the ground. The pickup’s driver and a truck driver helped get those cars to the side of the road, and the Kia’s driver drove himself to the hospital for treatment for head injuries.

Joshua Neil Anthon: killed 55-year old West Sacramento man in a hit-and-run accident following an argument in a shopping center

Joshua Neil Anthon, 32, faces four years in state prison, a spokesperson from the Yolo District Attorney’s office told the News-Ledger. He will receive his sentence on Dec. 12.

The accident happened in a parking lot on the 900-block of Sacramento Avenue at about 9:40 p.m. on Nov. 5, 2013. Police responded to find that 55-year old Michael Ray Anderson had been hit and killed by a motorhome occupied by an unidentified man and woman. The RV had left the scene.

Investigators said shortly afterward that they believe that Anderson and at least one of the suspects had been involved in an argument before the RV hit Anderson.

Surveillance tapes inside a store at the scene showed images of both the suspects and their RV. The images were widely distributed during a manhunt for the pair in the RV.

Two days after the accident, Anthon and the woman who had been in the RV, 34-year old Pamela Nicole McKee, separately turned themselves in to police.

The Yolo County District Attorney’s office “did not find sufficient evidence to file charges against the female suspect,” the D.A.’s office told the News-Ledger.
