Boat parade Sunday on the river

FROM THE NEWS-LEDGER ONLINE — MAY 1, 2013 —

The Sacramento Yacht Club has announced that its annual “opening day” boat parade will be held Sunday, May 5, on the Sacramento River. Best viewing spots include the Old Sacramento waterfront and the River Walk Park in West Sacramento (near the ziggurat building and Tower Bridge).

The yacht club is headquartered on South River Road in Southport, West Sacramento.

[adrotate group=”9″]   The parade starts at the club after a noon “blessing of the fleet.” Boats will then proceed up river under the Tower Bridge and past Old Sacramento. They will turn around at the Virgin Sturgeon restaurant and return to the club.

Boats will be specially decorated for the event and will vie for club prizes.  This year’s parade has a “Cinco de Mayo” theme.

Free: kids ‘play date’ at Raley Field

FROM THE NEWS-LEDGER ONLINE — APRIL 29, 2013 —

“Mommy & Me” is a periodic play date for kids at the Raley Field. There’s one on schedule for this Wednesday, 10 a.m. to noon.

Kids six and under are invited, along with their parents. There will be bounce houses, base-running, pictures with Dinger, snacks and more. Registration starts at 9 a.m.

RCHS player signs ‘letter of intent’

FROM THE NEWS-LEDGER — APRIL 24, 2013 —

River City High senior Antonio Perea has accepted a football scholarship at Dordt College in Iowa. Perea made 46 tackles for RCHS last season and assisted on 79, with five forced fumbles, three pass break-ups and an interception. At 5’ 9”, 170 pounds, he has plaid defensive back and linebacker and was an All-Metro honorable mention this season.

Currently, he plans to study criminal justice at the college.
