FROM THE NEWS-LEDGER — MAY 9, 2012 —

River City High’s baseball team hosted the Galt Warriors on May 1.

The RCHS varsity was led by Javi Martinez, who kept the Warriors to one run. The game was called in the Raiders’ favor when RCHS built an 11-1 lead, triggering the “10-run rule” that ended the contest early.

The River City junior varsity came from behind to tie their game in the seventh inning, sending the game to extra innings. Logan Funkner hit a sacrifice fly in the 10th to score freshman Jesus Gracia, for a 7-6 home team victory. On Thursday, the team celebrated “Senior Night” with its last home game of the season. The RCHS varsity lost to visiting El Dorado, 3-0.

But the Raiders (listed at 14-12 overall and 11-6 league play) head into the playoffs next week. Today (May 14) at 4 p.m., the team will host a visiting team (not selected at press time) in the first round of the post-season under Coach Jeff Cox. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for kids.
