Rotary honors three club members

NEWS-LEDGER — MARCH 28, 2012 —

West Sacramento’s “Centennial Rotary Club” (one of two local Rotary chapters) has presented three of its most active members with Paul Harris Foundation Awards, in honor of their support for the club’s work.

Rotary engages in a lot of community projects in West Sacramento.

According to club president-elect Don Schatzel, their contributions have been large and consistent.

[adrotate group=”9″]   Treasurer Alan Wegat of Nor Cal Performance has made “huge” contributions keeping the accounts in order, Walt James has been running things as club president, and Buzz Jones of PIP Printing “runs the club” as secretary, commented Schatzel.

NEWS-LEDGER — MARCH 28, 2012 —

On March 22, the River City High School Girls Softball team faced El Camino.

While the RCHS varsity lost by a final score of  11-1, the schools junior varsity won 10-3.  The varsity also lost to Colfax on Friday, taking its record to three wins, nine losses.

Woodie Guthrie show on stage

A “City Theatre” production of “Woodie Guthrie’s American Song” is on stage at the Black Box Theater in the West Sacramento Community Center, 1075 W Capitol Avenue.

The play celebrates one of America’s greatest songwriters and storytellers, with a cast of 24 and a live band. Guthrie was a folk singer who stood up for America’s underdogs, and whose songs include “This Land is Your Land” and other classics.

Shows are at 8 p.m. on March 30, 31, April 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 & 28, and at 2 p.m. on April 1, 8, 15, 22, 28 & 29. $15 general ($13 for 2 p.m. shows) with some discounts available. Visit www.citytheatre.net or call 558-2228.

On March 20, River City High School girls soccer faced Cosumnes Oaks in a league game.

The RCHS junior varsity team lost by a final score of of 5-0; while the RC varsity lost 2-0.

Two days later, the varsity soccer squad from RCHS faced Union Mine, losing 4-0, while the j.v. dropped their game 1-0.

The team plays at home next against Galt on April 10.

The semi-pro Sacramento Gold soccer team beat the Eureka Tsunami 5-1 on Saturday, earning a spot in the North west Conference finals.

The Gold will play the Bay Area Ambassadors at 7 p.m. Sat., March 31, at the River City High stadium. Tickets are $5 (children under six free). Children in soccer uniforms also enter free.
