Free help for dogs, owners


“West Sacramento Neighborhood Dog Days” is coming to West Sacramento on Sunday, June 2. A bunch of free help is available to dog owners.

Bring your dog in for free rabies & puppy shots, vouchers for spaying & neutering, free collars and leashes, free veterinary exams and ID tags.

The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Riverbank Elementary School, 1100 Carrie Street.

Drop off your unneeded and gently-used books, DVDs and magazines for re-sale in the library’s sales alcove or in the next book sale weekend. Your donations support library programs and materials. There’s a donation bin outside the north end of the library, 1212 Merkley Avenue, West Sacramento.

West Sac teen honored for service

Bradly Palmer was selected as a recipient of the Yolo Youth Service Award scholarship for his volunteer service with the Bryte and Broderick Community Action Network in West Sacramento.  Bradly’s commitment to volunteerism indicates great potential for service and leadership in the future.

Yolo Community Foundation (YCF) was established in 2001 to advance charitable giving in Yolo County and to strengthen the capacity of local nonprofit organizations. The Yolo Youth Service Awards are designed to support youth involvement in community life and nurture the future of local philanthropy. More information about YCF and its activities can be found at www.yolocf.org.

Bradly was scheduled to receive a $1,000 scholarship award during an awards ceremony yesterday. The Yolo Community Foundation also planned to give a $500 award to the Bryte and Broderick Community Action Network in honor of the agency’s commitment to youth volunteer service.

Bomb scare at West Sac post office


West Sacramento police and fire units responded on May 15 to the report of a suspicious package at the U.S. Postal Service mail hub, 3775 Industrial Boulevard.

A call came in at 7:15 a.m. on May 15.

“Upon arrival, responders found a cardboard package emitting an electronic alarm from within,” said a West Sacramento Fire Department press statement. “The package was moved to a secure area outside the south parking area (and) the Yolo County Bomb Squad was dispatched to the scene. The suspicious package was deemed safe around 10:30 a.m., thanks to the great work by the bomb techs.”

What was it?

“A battery operated ‘door stop alarm’ was found to have been accidentally turned on.”
